Governor Bill Richardson Lowers State Fair Prices

If Governor Bill Richardson can help it, more people will be having fun at the state fair from today through September 21 when it closes. He must have experienced or heard of the low attendance that I observed in my previous article. He ordered managers at the fair to drop admission and midway prices effective today. Admission prices have been reduced by $1.00 and weekend all-day ride prices by $10.00. In addition, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday admission prices will be two for one, for adults, senior citizens and children.

I hope the price reductions will be effective in getting more people to the fairgrounds not only because the fair is fun, but also because the livelihood of many people depends on its success. I find myself thinking about the mother who accompanied her son to our Read-to-Me booth. She was at the fair because in her business, she travels ten months of the year with the fair. I would like her to leave Albuquerque pleased with her business success while here.

I hope those who want to attend the fair will will be encouraged by the lower prices. On Friday when I return, I hope to have elbow room only as I walk down the mid way and I won't mind standing in line for my lemonade or turkey leg.
The fairgrounds are in the middle of the city of Albuquerque at 300 San Pedro Avenue. They are just south of Uptown. Exits on San Mateo and Louisiana from I-25 will take you to one of several entrances on Lousiana, Central and San Pedro.
